The reciprocating machine is widely used in industrial production, and flow regulation is a key link to ensure its efficient and stable operation. There are several common ways to adjust the flow rate of reciprocating machines, including the following:

Bypass regulation: This method is achieved by setting a bypass pipeline between the outlet and inlet of the reciprocating machine to return some of the exhaust gas to the inlet, thereby achieving flow regulation. The advantages are easy operation, rapid adjustment, continuous adjustment, and the ability to quickly respond to changes in working conditions. The disadvantage is that the returned gas needs to be compressed again, which can cause energy waste, increase operating costs, and long-term use may lead to an increase in gas temperature, affecting equipment performance. Suitable for situations with a small flow regulation range and low energy consumption requirements, such as small air compressors.

Clearance volume adjustment: Adjust the flow rate by changing the clearance volume of the cylinder. When the piston reaches the end of its stroke, the remaining space in the cylinder is the clearance volume. Increasing the clearance volume can reduce the amount of gas inhaled by the cylinder each time, thereby lowering the flow rate. Its advantages are simple structure, no need for additional complex equipment, and relatively smooth adjustment process with minimal impact on the equipment. The disadvantage is that the adjustment range is limited and it will reduce the efficiency of the compressor, because as the clearance volume increases, the number of gas expansions increases and power consumption increases. Commonly used in situations where flow regulation accuracy is not high and the operating conditions are relatively stable, such as some small gas compressors.
